Two men will face court today following a dangerous driving incident in Lyneham yesterday.

On Sunday (6 September 2026), police conducting patrols on Athlon Drive in Phillip observed two vehicles travelling in excess of the posted speed limit, including a white Kia Cerato.

Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and directed both vehicles to stop but they drove off.

About 1:40pm yesterday (Tuesday, 8 September 2026) police travelling on Northbourne Avenue in Lyneham saw the same white Kia Cerato.

Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens but the driver allegedly accelerated away, drove through a red light and continued onto the Federal Highway.

The vehicle then collided with an unmarked police vehicle and street sign near the intersection of the Federal Highway and Flemington Road.

The driver and three passengers exited the vehicle and the driver, a 23-year-old Richardson man who was on parole, attempted to flee the scene.

After climbing a barbed wire fence and a short foot pursuit, he was arrested by police and transported to the ACT Watch House.

He was charged with aggravated furious driving, failing to stop for police and being an unlicenced driver.

One passenger, a 20-year-old man who was subject to good behaviour obligations, allegedly had a set of knuckle dusters in his possession.

He was charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

Both men are due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 9 September 2026).
