Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility
On 1 July 2025, the minimum age of criminal responsibility will increase from 12 years old to 14. This means that children under 14 years will not be criminally responsible for harmful behaviour. This is except for 12 and 13 year olds who commit certain exceptionally serious and intentionally violent offences.
