ACT Policing has charged two men with weapons and firearms offences following separate arrests yesterday.
About 5pm yesterday (Friday, 4 September 2026), officers from the Proactive Intervention and Diversion Team stopped a black Mercedes Benz on Erindale Drive to execute a search warrant. The 31-year-old driver from Monash was identified as a disqualified driver, and a subsequent drug test indicated the presence of a prescribed drug.
Soon after, a search warrant was executed on the man's residence in Monash.
During the search police located a set of knuckle the dusters, an extendable baton, two imitation handguns, a bag of ball bearings and an item capable of using gas to fire projectiles.
The man was later charged with three counts of possessing a prohibited firearm, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, drug driving, drive while disqualified and breaching a good behaviour order.
The second arrest occurred about 11.45pm during a traffic stop by officers from City Station on a BMW at a service station in Watson.
A passenger in the vehicle was identified as a man who was in breach of court ordered reporting obligations.
A subsequent search of the man and his possessions located two folding imitation firearms, a bag containing ammunition, an empty firearm magazine, small clip-seal bags suspected of containing drugs including cannabis, heroin and methylamphetamine and approximately $800 in cash.
The 28-year-old from Ainslie was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition, possession of property suspected to be the proceeds of crime and breach of bail. Enquiries relating to the illicit drugs are continuing.
Both men are expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 5 September 2026).
