A 43-year-old man has been charged with multiple family violence offences after police attended a Higgins residence yesterday.
On the evening of Friday (18 September 2026), police allege the man attended the Higgins residence and became verbally aggressive towards a woman known to him.
Police will allege that over an extended period he assaulted the woman, damaged property within the residence, restricted her movements and prevented her from contacting others.
About 6:45pm yesterday (Saturday, 19 September 2026), a concerned friend contacted police after receiving messages from the woman requesting assistance.
A short time later, police attended the Higgins residence to conduct a welfare check. After repeated attempts to contact those inside the home, officers exercised emergency powers to enter the premises due to concerns for the woman's safety.
Police entered the residence and located the woman. The man was subsequently found inside the home and arrested.
The man who was subject to bail conditions will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday, 21 September 2026) charged with forcible confinement, aggravated common assault (FV), damage property, chokes/suffocates/strangles another person (FV), possess offensive weapon with intent, and intentional threat to kill a person.
ACT Policing stands ready to assist victims experiencing family violence.
