A 53-year-old woman has been charged after she allegedly made 20 nuisance calls to police in three hours.
Police will allege between 5:40pm and 9:20pm (Tuesday, 5 May 2026), the woman called Triple Zero 20 times but she was not experiencing an emergency.
The woman was instructed multiple times by police communications staff to only call for a genuine emergency, but her calls continued.
About 9:45pm, police attended the woman’s home in O’Connor and she was arrested while she was again on the phone to Triple Zero.
She will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with making vexatious calls to an emergency service number.
It is an offence under ACT and Commonwealth legislation to make a false report to police, to cause police or other emergency service resources to be wasted, or to make harassing phone calls to emergency services.
Inappropriate use of the Triple Zero number can potentially delay the response to those in genuine need, such as those who are in a life-threatening situation.
