ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage after two women allegedly assaulted a member of the public and stole a vehicle in Gungahlin on Friday evening.
About 5:45pm on Friday (8 May 2026), two women wearing dark clothing approached a person sitting inside their vehicle in the Gungahlin Marketplace underground carpark on Ernest Cavanagh Street, requesting assistance. The person declined to transport the women but offered alternative assistance. The women left after being unable to enter the vehicle.
A short time later (about 6:00pm), the same two women approached another member of the public who was seated inside a Grey Hyundai Tucson SUV in the open-air car park on Boon Lane, Gungahlin.
The women again requested assistance. After the victim drove the pair, they allegedly assaulted her and forcibly removed her from the vehicle. During the incident, a knife was produced.
The two women drove off in the woman’s vehicle, which was later recovered by police in Duffy.
The victim was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to hospital.
Police urge anyone who witnessed either approach, or who has dash‑cam or CCTV footage from the Gungahlin Marketplace underground carpark or Boon Lane areas between 5.30pm and 6.15pm, to come forward.
