A 38-year-old man is expected to face court today, charged with multiple driving-related offences after he allegedly drove a utility vehicle at his partner’s father.
On 4 November 2025, the Sentence Administration Board of the ACT directed that the man be released on parole from 10 November 2025.
On 16 December 2025, the man failed to appear before the board and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
About 7:15pm on Sunday, 5 April 2026, police received reports of a woman screaming and a man allegedly dangerously driving a black JMC Vigus utility in Aranda.
Police arrived a short time later and spoke with the woman’s father. He told police the man had allegedly assaulted his daughter and struck her with the vehicle, and had driven at him multiple times.
Officers also spoke with several witnesses who reported seeing the vehicle being driven furiously and at the woman’s father.
Later that evening, police saw the vehicle turn onto Redfern Street in Macquarie at speed and drive on the wrong side of the road, without its headlights on. Officers deployed a tyre deflation device nearby, causing the front passenger tyre to deflate and the rim to strike the road surface, throwing sparks.
The man continued driving a short distance before allegedly abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Police were unable to locate him at the time. Officers seized the vehicle and checks confirmed it was displaying incorrect NSW registration plates.
On 17 April 2026, police received information that the number plates had been reported stolen in NSW in March 2025.
Yesterday (Friday, 1 May 2026), police received further information that the man was an unlicenced driver, after a period of disqualification, and that the utility was unregistered and uninsured from 7 January 2026 after it was written off. Enquiries are continuing to identify the owner of the vehicle.
About 1am this morning (Saturday, 2 May 2026), police responded to an unrelated disturbance in Belconnen involving the man and the woman. The man was arrested on the outstanding warrant and for family violence offences. During the arrest, police allege he was non-compliant and resisted.
He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with acts endangering life, aggravated furious driving, using a number plate with intent to deceive, unlawful possession of stolen property, driving while unlicenced, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle, and obstructing/resisting a territory public official.
