A 54-year-old Monash man will face court today after he allegedly brandished a knife and made threats at Woden Police Station yesterday.
About 10:45am yesterday, (Sunday, 24 May 2026), the man entered the Woden Police Station front office and spoke to officers.
He then allegedly made demands for police to pay for a taxi back to his residence.
When this request was declined, the man continued to make demands before reaching into his bag and brandishing a 22-centimetre knife.
The man then approached and threatened an officer with the knife.
More officers arrived and negotiated with the man to put the knife down. He complied and was subsequently arrested.
He was charged with possessing a knife without reasonable excuse, making demands accompanied by threats and breaching good behaviour obligations and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 25 May 2026).
Detective Acting Inspector Joshua Dick said that any knife carried in the community without a reasonable excuse won’t be tolerated.
“Carrying a knife without a reasonable excuse is a serious offence and we will take action against those who put others at risk,” Detective Acting Inspector Dick said.
“We will continue to remove dangerous weapons from our streets and hold offenders accountable to keep our community safe.”
