A 27-year-old Whitlam man has been charged with possessing child abuse material and family violence offences following a search warrant yesterday.

In 2025 NSW Police received a report that the man was distributing sexual images online of a woman known to him without her consent.

Enquiries revealed that the man resided in the ACT and the matter was referred to ACT Policing for further investigations.

About 8:30am yesterday (Friday, 8 May 2026), members of the ACT Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET), Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) and AFP Digital Forensics executed a search warrant at the man’s residence in Whitlam.

During the search warrant, officers seized two mobile phones, a laptop and a desktop computer containing child abuse material as well as a significant amount of intimate images of the woman. It will be alleged the images were shared online without her knowledge.

Police also allege the man was stalking the woman’s whereabouts.

The 27-year-old man was subsequently arrested and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 9 May 2026) charged with possessing child abuse material intend breach, using carriage service to send sexual material without consent and stalking.

Anyone with information regarding the accessing or creation of child abuse material is urged to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the crime stoppers act website. Information can be provided anonymously.

Note to media: use of term ‘child abuse material’, not ‘child pornography’

Use of the phrase “child pornography” benefits child sex abusers because it:

Indicates legitimacy and compliance on the part of the victim and therefore legality on the part of the abuser; and conjures images of children posing in ‘provocative’ positions, rather than suffering horrific abuse.

Each photograph captures an actual situation where a child has been abused. This is not ‘pornography”.
