Belconnen unit fire death being investigated as a homicide

ACT Policing is seeking information and assistance after detectives determined the death of a 46-year-old woman in a unit fire in Belconnen to be a homicide.

About 6:40am last Monday, (18 May 2026), police and emergency services were called to a fire at Osborne Place in Belconnen.

On arrival, police and emergency services located 46-year-old Kylee McHugh who was the resident of the unit. She was declared deceased at the scene.

Today, Homicide Squad investigators are issuing a fresh appeal for information to assist in the investigation.

Specifically, investigators are seeking:

  • To speak with anyone who had contact with Kylee McHugh in the three days prior to Monday 18 May 2026.
  • Any dash cam or CCTV footage recorded between 9PM on Sunday 17 May and 7AM, Monday 18 May in the area bounded by College Street, Haydon Drive, Belconnen Way and Eastern Valley Way.
