A 39‑year‑old Belconnen man is due to face court today after being charged with multiple firearms offences following an investigation into the manufacture of 3D‑printed firearms.
As part of an ongoing investigation into illegal firearms manufacturing in Canberra, ACT Policing and New South Wales Police identified a man allegedly involved in creating and supplying 3D printed firearms.
About 3:20pm yesterday (Wednesday, 13 May 2026), officers from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations, Drugs and Organised Crime Team, with assistance from AFP Tactical Response, executed two search warrants at homes in Howie Court, Belconnen.
During the searches, officers seized a range of items, including:
- Multiple 3D‑printed firearms
- 3D‑printed firearm parts
- 3D‑printed knuckle dusters
- Two foldable pistols
- A taser and an extendable baton
- Gel blasters
- Numerous rounds of ammunition of varying calibres
- Clip‑seal bags containing substances suspected to be illicit drugs
- Two bicycles suspected to be stolen
The 39-year-old resident of one of the homes has been charged with unauthorised manufacture of firearm, unauthorised possession/use of 10 or more firearms and possession of ammunition. He is expected to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 14 May 2026).
Police are conducting further enquires and further charges are expected to be laid in relation to this investigation.
ACT Policing reminds the community that the manufacture of firearms or firearm parts using 3D printers or any other equipment is illegal. All items used to create a firearm are also subject to criminal asset confiscation including printers, machines, phones, and computers.
