A 36-year-old Kambah man, who is currently subject to a good behaviour order, has been charged following a retail theft incident last weekend.
About 4pm on Sunday (22 March 2026), the 36-year-old man entered an automotive store in Fyshwick, in the company of an unidentified man and three children.
While other members of the group allegedly distracted staff members, the 36-year-old man allegedly took a stanley knife from the store and used it to cut down various items and place them in his duffle bag.
The group left the store a short time later, with the 36-year-old man getting into a black Volkswagen Tiguan. The stolen items totalled over $600.
Following investigations, police identified the man and yesterday (Friday, 27 March 2026) officers conducted a search warrant at his residence in Kambah.
A large number of items were seized, including:
- A modified air pressured firearm
- Quantities of drugs believed to be Xanax, cocaine, various steroids, cannabis, methamphetamine
- Various prohibited weapons
- The stolen property from the automotive store
- A large amount of other items suspected to be stolen property
About 2:00pm yesterday, the 36-year-old man was located on a nearby street in Kambah and was placed under arrest.
He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 28 March 2026) charged with minor theft and breach of good behaviour obligations. Further charges are expected to be laid in relation to the firearms and drugs located.
