An 85‑year‑old Gungahlin man will face court today after a series of family violence incidents allegedly committed over four months.
Police will allege the man assaulted his long‑term partner on multiple occasions at their Gungahlin residence between December 2025 and March 2026.
In December last year (2025), the man allegedly struck the woman several times with his walking stick, causing her to fall to the ground. The woman was forced to flee as the man continued to pursue her.
In January (2026), the man allegedly brandished a knife and made stabbing motions towards her.
Yesterday (Tuesday, 17 March 2026), the man allegedly struck the woman multiple times with his walking stick with enough force to break the end. She fell to the ground as a result and was later taken to hospital for bruising and cuts sustained during the assault.
The incident was reported to police by a witness. Shortly after, police spoke with the victim and subsequently arrested the man.
He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 18 March 2026) charged with two counts of using an offensive weapon, and one count each of common assault, intentional threat to inflict grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
