A 23-year-old Turner man — who is currently subject to both a good behaviour order and an intensive corrections order — is expected to face court today after police allegedly located him in possession of a stolen vehicle in Gungahlin.

About 10:20am yesterday (Friday, 12 June 2026), police received reports of a white Subaru Forester being driven erratically on Flemington Road in Mitchell.

About 11.00am, officers located the SUV in a hardware store carpark in Gungahlin while patrolling. Checks confirmed it had been reported stolen following a burglary at a property in Parkes.

Police made further enquiries and reviewed CCTV, which showed a man exiting the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

About midday, police located a man matching the person observed in the CCTV footage inside a Gungahlin shopping centre, where he was arrested.

Police will allege the man was in possession of a key to the stolen Subaru at the time of his arrest. A subsequent search allegedly located additional car keys and a number of hand tools.

Police will further allege the man committed these offences while subject to existing court orders, which required him not to commit any offences.

The man has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent and going equipped for theft. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 13 June 2026). Investigations into the theft of the vehicle are ongoing, and further charges may be laid.
