Man charged after allegedly assaulting elderly man

A 22-year-old man will face court after he allegedly assaulted an 82-year-old man in Rivett yesterday.

About 5:30pm, the man and his wife returned to their residence in Rivett when the 22-year-old man followed them inside.

He then became aggressive toward the couple before pushing the man to the ground and punching him in the face twice.

During the altercation, he also allegedly threatened to kill the older man.

Witnesses contacted police and officers arrested the man at the scene.

The 82-year-old man was treated by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to hospital.

The 22-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 2 June 2026), charged with threatening to kill a person, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and refusing to provide a name or address.
