ACT Policing has commenced a targeted, high-visibility policing response focused on community safety and anti-social behaviour in the City district.
During the operation, dedicated high-visibility patrols will be deployed in the City at identified peak times to address anti-social and criminal behaviour.
Where criminal offending occurs – action will be taken. However, in many situations support services will be the most appropriate pathway to assist an individual.
The operation will also focus on public intoxication and the unsafe behaviours associated with it.
Teams will engage with CBD business operators to identify issues and concerns and where appropriate, liaise with government and other agencies to address these matters.
Businesses and members of the public are encouraged to report incidents to police, either by speaking to a patrol, attending City Police Station, or by calling 131 444.
‘Cop-pop-ups' will also occur in the CBD during the operation, allowing anyone to meet and speak with police in an informal setting.
The CBD SAFE operation will work in addition to existing City Patrol and Territory Targeting Team teams.
Last Friday morning (12 June 2026) three men were arrested after a taxi driver attended City Police Station to report that three male passengers he recently dropped off had threatened to stab him whilst in transit.
A short time later, police located three males on Bunda Street who matched the description. A 19-year-old man from Dickson was subject to multiple good behaviour orders and in breach of bail conditions he had signed less than 24 hours prior, a 23-year-old Conder man who was in breach of existing bail conditions and who was subject to an arrest warrant and a 22-year-old Farrer man.
While dealing with the three men, a member of the public approached police and advised them he had just been robbed and assaulted by the three males. Police subsequently located property belonging to the victim in the possession of the offenders.
The three men were charged with joint commission aggravated robbery, joint commission assault and joint commission theft. The 19-year-old male was also charged with breaching his bail and breaching three good behaviour orders. The 23-year-old male was also charged with providing a false name and address to police, hindering/resisting a territory official, breaching his bail conditions and failing to appear in Court.
