A 29-year-old woman has been charged after she allegedly strangled and assaulted her mother in a family violence incident yesterday afternoon.
About 5:40pm, the two women were at a home in south Canberra when the 29-year-old woman allegedly struck her mother over the head with a bottle.
She then allegedly strangled her to the point of unconsciousness.
The victim regained consciousness, but the woman attempted to strangle her again. The victim was able to escape the residence and contact police.
She was taken to hospital by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics and about 7:30pm, police arrested the 29-year-old woman.
She will fact the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 15 July 2026), charged with aggravated common assault, aggravated choke person and render insensible, and chokes/suffocates/strangles another person.
