ACT Policing has charged two people after a vehicle allegedly failed to stop for police and firearms were later located in Belconnen.
About 12.40pm yesterday (Wednesday, 1 July 2026), police directed a black Nissan Navara to stop in McKellar. The vehicle began to drive towards the police vehicle and officers deployed a tyre deflation device, deflating one tyre before the vehicle fled.
A short time later, the vehicle was located abandoned on Sprout Circuit, McKellar.
About 1:00pm police arrested a 22-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man in Evatt.
Police will allege the pair had been travelling in the vehicle prior to it being abandoned.
During searches conducted following the arrests, police located a firearm, two tasers, and more than $10,000 cash.
Further enquiries led to the recovery of an additional firearm in McKellar.
The 22-year-old woman has been charged with unauthorised possession of 1-2 firearms, while the 24-year-old man has been charged with possessing ammunition and possessing a prohibited weapon without authorisation.
Both will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 2 July 2026.)
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further charges may be laid.
