A 17-year-old male has been charged after allegedly assaulting a bottle shop employee during an aggravated robbery in Woden last night.
About 6pm (Monday, 27 July 2026), a teenager allegedly entered a bottle shop at a shopping centre in Woden armed with a wooden baseball bat.
The teenager is alleged to have struck a store employee multiple times with the baseball bat while demanding cash from the business.
As the employee attempted to move away, the teenager allegedly struck him again before taking a bottle of alcohol and exiting the store.
ACT Ambulance Service paramedics attended a short time later and treated the employee before he was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
About 6:35pm, police located the teenager at the City bus interchange. Police will allege he resisted officers during his arrest.
During a subsequent search, officers allegedly located a knife in the teenager’s possession.
The teenager will face the ACT Children’s Court today (Tuesday, 28 July 2026), charged with intentionally inflict actual bodily harm, aggravated robbery (offensive weapon), resist territory public official (knowingly), possess knife without reasonable excuse.
