A 17-year-old p-plater has had his licence suspended and vehicle seized after being caught speeding 70km/h above the speed limit.
About 11pm last night (Saturday, 18 July 2026), police detected a vehicle travelling on the Tuggeranong Parkway.
Police will allege the vehicle was travelling at 170km/h in a signposted 100km/h zone.
The driver, a 17-year-old male, was stopped by police a short time later.
His licence was immediately suspended, and his vehicle was seized. He is expected to be summonsed to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to the alleged offence.
ACT Policing is reminding drivers that speeding remains one of the Fatal Five contributing factors to serious and fatal collisions on ACT roads.
“Higher speeds reduce the time available to react and significantly increase stopping distances,” Detective Acting Inspector Road Policing David Lawler said.
“Speeding puts not only the driver but all road users at risk, including passengers, other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
“Police can be anywhere, anytime and in any vehicle. We urge all road users to slow down, obey speed limits and help keep our roads safe.”
