A 20-year-old Nicholls man has been charged with multiple driving offences after he allegedly failed to stop for police and resisted arrest.
About 2:20pm yesterday (Friday, 10 July 2026) police were conducting patrols on Gungahlin Drive when they observed a black motorcycle with no number plate travelling at excess speed eastbound towards Gungahlin town centre.
A short time later, a Road Policing motorcyclist located the black motorcycle stopped at traffic lights at the intersection of Gundaroo Drive and Mirrabei Drive in Gungahlin.
The officer pulled up alongside the motorcycle, switched off the engine and directed the rider to stop.
It is alleged the rider then attempted to push his motorcycle away and restart it. The officer dismounted and attempted to apprehend the rider, resulting in a prolonged scuffle that moved into the middle of the intersection in view of a large number of motorists and pedestrians.
The 20-year-old rider was arrested and provided negative roadside tests for alcohol and drugs.
The man, who was unlicenced, was charged with fail to stop motor vehicle for police, resist territory public official, use unregistered vehicle, contravene interlock condition and use number plate not attached as required.
He is due to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on 4 August.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the incident at the intersection of Gundaroo Drive and Mirrabei Drive to come forward.
Anyone who can assist police should provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8439574.
