Man to face court after allegedly stealing car from dealership

A 32-year-old Lyons man has been charged after he allegedly stole a vehicle from a Mitchell car dealership.

About 2:30pm on Friday (10 July 2026), the man and a male accomplice entered a used vehicle dealership in Mitchell and stole the keys to a gold Subaru Outback.

The two men then drove off in the stolen vehicle.

The incident was reported to police and yesterday (Monday, 13 July 2026), police observed a man matching the CCTV footage from the dealership at a shopping centre in Weston.

The man was arrested as he was leaving the shopping centre and the stolen Subaru Outback was located nearby.

The man, who was on parole and bail for similar offences, is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 14 July 2026) charged with joint commission take motor vehicle without consent, riding motor vehicle without consent and breaching his parole obligations.
