A 39-year-old Lyneham man has been charged following a police pursuit through Canberra early yesterday morning.

About 3:40am yesterday (Sunday, 19 July 2026), police were conducting patrols in Ngunnawal when they observed a vehicle displaying registration plates that had previously been reported stolen.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver failed to stop and continued driving through a number of suburbs across Canberra’s north.

It is alleged the driver committed a range of traffic offences during the incident, including failing to stop for police, driving through red traffic lights and driving on the wrong side of the road.

During the incident, tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed and police continued coordinated efforts to safely monitor and contain the vehicle.

The vehicle eventually travelled into the City area before coming to a stop near the intersection of Alinga Street and Northbourne Avenue about 4:15am.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, the 39-year-old male driver, was arrested.

The man, who was subject to parole conditions, will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 20 July 2026) charged with aggravated dangerous driving and failing to appear before the Sentence Administration Board.
