ACT Policing continues to target drink driving and defective vehicles in the ACT, undertaking a joint operation at several locations across Canberra this week.
Yesterday (Tuesday 21 July 2026), ACT Road Policing members conducted the joint operation alongside ACT Vehicle Safety Standard Inspectors.
The operation saw 372 alcohol screen tests undertaken, with officers issuing 36 defects to unroadworthy motor vehicles as well as 12 infringements.
About 1:10pm yesterday, police were conducting RBT activities on Yarra Glen Drive in Curtin when they observed a blue BYD Sealion.
The driver, a 31-year-old Mawson man, underwent a roadside breath test returning a positive result.
The man was then taken to Woden Police Station to undergo an alcohol screening analysis which produced a result of 0.089 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath.
The man who had a nine-month-old baby in the car, had his licence immediately suspended and will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
ACT Road Policing Detective Acting Inspector David Lawler said the operation highlighted the importance of all motorists meeting their responsibilities on Canberra roads.
“Operations like this provide an opportunity to ensure vehicles are registered, insured and roadworthy,” Detective Acting Inspector Lawler said.
“While targeted enforcement activities help raise awareness, police will continue to carry out roadside alcohol and drug screening anywhere, at any time, as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping ACT roads safe.”
