ACT Policing has issued 1,934 traffic infringement notices totalling more than $850,000 to Canberra drivers in the second year of submissions of dash-cam footage of traffic incidents.
Since the dangerous driving portal was launched in May 2024, police have received more than 4,300 submissions from the public.
The most common infringements identified are traffic light offences, including failing to stop for red lights, driving without due care, negligent driving, failing to give way and failing to indicate correctly.
In the past twelve months, police have also issued 414 cautions and 279 warnings for traffic offences following submissions to the portal.
ACT Policing Officer in Charge of Road Policing, Detective Inspector Mark Steel said reports from the public were helping keep Canberra roads safe.
“The increase in submissions, from 1,600 in the first year to 2,700 in the second, shows that the community knows this behaviour is unacceptable, and they’re holding their fellow drivers to account,” Detective Inspector Steel said.
"Some of the submissions capture driving behaviour that is quite concerning and while police can’t be everywhere all the time, the portal means any car on the road could be the one that catches you out. If you don’t want a fine, follow the road rules.”
