A 50-year-old Barton man will face court today after allegedly using an instant messaging application to transmit child abuse material.

In January, police received information from the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) regarding a user of an instant messaging application who was sending child abuse material.

Enquiries by the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team linked the Barton man to the account and on Saturday (10 January 2026), police executed a search warrant at his home.

A mobile phone was seized by police and will be subject to further forensic examination.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with two counts of using a carriage service for child abuse material.
