A 33-year-old man will face court after allegedly assaulting and strangling his partner at her home overnight.
About midnight, the man allegedly threw a chair at his partner and strangled her while at her home in Canberra’s south. A short time later, he allegedly struck her in the face and strangled her again.
Police were called to the scene and spoke to the woman before locating the man nearby.
The man, who was subject to good behaviour obligations, was arrested and charged with two counts of chokes/suffocates/strangles another person and two counts of aggravated assault. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, 27 February 2026).
