Woman charged after alleged assaults and property damage at Belconnen store

ACT Policing has charged a 37-year-old Spence woman after she allegedly assaulted two retail employees and damaged property at a Belconnen shopping centre yesterday.

About 11.50am yesterday (Wednesday, 12 August 2026), the woman attended a department store in Belconnen and became involved in an altercation with staff.

It is alleged the woman approached a staff member and repeatedly shouted at her before assaulting her.

Police will further allege that the woman caused damage to several items within the store.

A short time later, it is alleged the woman assaulted a second staff member before members of the public intervened.

Police and security responded to the incident and located the woman inside the store. She was subsequently arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

The woman who was subject to good behaviour obligations, will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday 13 August 2026), charged with two counts of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, property damage and affray.
