Seven teenagers, aged from 14 to 19, were arrested in separate incidents involving stolen vehicles yesterday, one of which resulted in a foot pursuit through the National Museum.
In the first incident, about 10am (Tuesday, 18 August 2026), police observed a stolen Mercedes SUV in Lyneham.
Police followed the vehicle which was driving erratically until it collided with a taxi outside the National Museum of Australia.
Three occupants, a 15-year-old girl, 17-year-old boy and 19-year-old man, fled the vehicle and into the museum.
The girl was arrested outside and the two males were located and arrested inside.
All three faced the ACT Childrens and Magistrates Courts yesterday, charged with various theft and stolen vehicle offences.
In a separate incident, four other teenagers were arrested after they were caught travelling in a stolen vehicle.
About midday, police received reports that a stolen white Kia Rio was driving erratically near Melba High School.
Police located the vehicle and followed it to Flynn where four boys, aged 14, 15, 16, and 17, were arrested.
Two will face the ACT Childrens Court today, charged with stolen vehicle offences. The other two were released from custody and may be charged at a later date.
Five of the seven teenagers were known to police and two, the 19-year-old man and one of the 17-year-old boys, were subject to good behaviour obligations at the time of their arrests.
