Man charged after allegedly strangling and threatening to kill former partner

A 40-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly strangled his former partner and threatened to kill her.

Yesterday morning (Sunday, 23 August 2026), the man allegedly confined the woman in a room and began threatening to kill her.

He then allegedly strangled her and refused to let her leave the room.

The woman was eventually able to leave and call for help.

The man was arrested and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 24 August 2026), charged with chokes/suffocates/strangles another person, intentional threat to kill a person, and forcible confinement.
