A 28-year-old man will face court after he allegedly assaulted his former partner in her vehicle while her children were present.

About 10am yesterday (Tuesday, 18 August 2026), the man allegedly entered his former partner’s car while she was driving in Wanniassa. Two children were also in the vehicle at the time.

He allegedly threatened her while demanding she return to her home and then struck her in the face.

About 10:50am, the woman was able to escape the car in Oxley and asked bystanders to call police.

Later that afternoon, officers attended a home in Lyons where the man was located and arrested.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 19 August 2026), charged with unauthorised entry of a motor vehicle, reckless threats to inflict grievous bodily harm, aggravated common assault, and forcible confinement.
