ACT Policing has met with the family of the young boys who were assaulted at the Westfield Belconnen shopping centre on Friday (14 August 2026).
The policing response to the incident was not in line with ACT Policing’s expectations or the community’s expectations and ACT Policing has apologised to the family.
We want to reassure the ACT community this is not our standard response protocol and ACT Policing is reviewing the policing response to this incident.
An 18-year-old man was arrested by ACT Policing officers in McKellar today and charged with Common Assault and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday, August 17).
