Two teenagers have been charged and police are attempting to identify more suspects following a bottle shop theft and dangerous driving in a stolen car.
About 5pm on Tuesday (21 April 2026), six people exited a stolen white Volkswagen Polo outside a bottle shop in Dunlop.
The group then entered the store and allegedly stole hundreds of dollars' worth of alcohol before fleeing in the Volkswagen.
The vehicle was later observed by police and witnesses driving dangerously through Belconnen and Gungahlin suburbs.
At one point the Polo crossed to the wrong side of the Federal Highway and drove towards oncoming traffic. The occupants of the Polo also threw full bottles of alcohol at police vehicles.
The Volkswagen was located in Franklin about 6:10pm and three girls were located nearby, one who was subject to bail conditions.
Two girls faced the ACT Childrens Court yesterday (Wednesday, 22 April 2026), charged with riding in a motor vehicle without consent and joint commission minor theft. Both were remanded and will appear before court again at a later date.
Investigations to identify and locate the other people who were in the vehicle are continuing.
Police are also urging anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the vehicle driving erratically on Tuesday afternoon and evening to come forward.
Anyone who can assist police should provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8364031.
