A 17-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly driving at a police vehicle with a stolen car while on bail.

About 5:45am yesterday morning (Wednesday, 29 April 2026), a red Volvo SUV was stolen from a home in Griffith.

Later that morning, the vehicle was observed entering a car park on Furneaux Street in Griffith.

Officers blocked the entrance with their vehicle and began searching the car park when the 17-year-old boy allegedly drove at police while attempting to flee.

The Volvo collided with the police vehicle and a wall, and the boy, who was subject to bail conditions, was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

He will face the ACT Childrens Court today (Thursday, 30 April 2026), charged with reckless driving, driving motor vehicle without consent and property damage.

Anyone who witnessed the red Volvo SUV with ACT registration YQU55L driving across Canberra is asked to contact Crime Stoppers via the Crimes Stoppers ACT website. Please quote 8371068.
