ACT Policing has charged a 49-year-old Fisher man following an investigation into alleged proceeds of crime and financial fraud activities totalling over $1.4 million.
Yesterday (Friday, 10 April 2026) officers from Criminal Investigations, executed a search warrant at a residential address in Fisher as part of an ongoing investigation into the handling of proceeds of crime.
It is alleged the man facilitated the movement of over $1.4 million obtained through business email compromise offences, converting the stolen money into gold bullion and cash to avoid detection.
Police will also allege the man opened multiple bank accounts which were then supplied to associates. These accounts were allegedly used to redirect funds during large financial transactions, including real estate settlements.
During the search of the Fisher address, police located a number of high-value items, including gold jewellery and approximately $20,000 cash. The man was subsequently arrested.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, (Saturday, 11 April 2026), with five charges relating to proceeds of crime and five charges of receiving stolen property.
ACT Policing reminds the community that business email compromise and other cyber-enabled fraud offences can have significant financial and emotional impacts. Businesses are encouraged to remain vigilant when conducting financial transactions and to independently verify payment details.
Anyone with information about suspected fraud or financial crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
