A 26-year-old Yarralumla man will face court today after he allegedly committed a series of dangerous driving and violent offences, including stabbing a police officer, during incidents across Canberra’s south yesterday.
On Friday morning (3 April 2026), police received multiple reports regarding a white Kia Stonic SUV with Queensland registration driving dangerously across Canberra.
About 9.15am, officers observed the white SUV travelling on Erindale Drive in Wanniassa and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Police will allege the vehicle failed to stop and drove off at speed through residential streets before officers lost sight of it.
About 10.35am, police located the vehicle on Anketell Street in Greenway. Police will allege the driver again failed to stop, drove at high speed and on the wrong side of the road, and continued to evade police through several suburbs in Tuggeranong.
During the incident, it will be alleged the vehicle was driven at police vehicles and officers attempting to deploy tyre deflation devices, forcing police to take evasive action to avoid being struck.
Police will also allege the vehicle was involved in a collision with another car near Calwell before continuing to travel at excessive speed.
About 10.50am, the vehicle collided with a tree in Richardson. The driver fled the scene, and during a short foot pursuit, police will allege the man brandished a knife at officers.
During the arrest, he allegedly stabbed a police officer in the arm and torso. The officer was treated at the scene by other officers and paramedics before being transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police will further allege the man provided false details to police, and a replica firearm was found inside the Kia. A check of the vehicle also indicated it had been reported stolen from Queensland.
The man – who was subject to an outstanding warrant for previous alleged offences – was taken into custody and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 4 April 2026). He has been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving at police, assault, possessing a prohibited firearm and knife without a reasonable excuse.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the Kia Stonic SUV bearing Queensland registration 125KZ4 driving dangerously around Canberra to come forward.
