A 34-year-old man has been charged with fraud, burglary and driving offences after allegedly using stolen bank cards and failing to stop for police.
In April last year (2025), police allege the man used bank cards stolen from vehicles in the Gungahlin area to buy items from service stations and a fast-food outlet.
Following investigations, a man who was on a Good Behaviour Order was identified and arrested on 22 May 2025.
The man was then released on bail.
On 7 October (2025), police received reports of two men in a stolen black Mazda 3 driving into an underground carpark and smashing a car window.
Police attended and observed the black Mazda 3 exit the carpark and drive through a red light. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens but the vehicle failed to stop and drove off.
It is alleged that the driver of the Mazda 3 was the 34-year-old man. A warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to attend court in relation to the use of stolen bank cards.
Enquiries identified the man was serving a sentence in a NSW prison and following his release on Sunday (12 April 2026), he was extradited by ACT Policing officers on Monday (13 April 2026) to Canberra.
He is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 14 April 2026), to face fraud, attempted fraud and stolen property offences that were laid in May (2025).
He will also be charged with aggravated burglary, driving a stolen motor vehicle and failing to stop for police when directed to do so.
