A 38-year-old Page man will face court today after police located a gel blaster in the man’s unregistered and uninsured vehicle on Saturday night.
About 10:20pm (18 April 2026), police attended a petrol station in Giralang following reports of the man lying unconscious beside a running vehicle.
Upon arrival, the man was drifting in and out of consciousness, leading police to believe he was allegedly drug-affected. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle to determine what substance the man may have consumed.
During the search, police located a suspected firearm, described as a tan-coloured Glock-style weapon, along with an illicit substance.
Further inspection of the vehicle revealed it was allegedly fitted with false number plates. Police checks also identified the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured and the man was unlicenced.
Police reviewed CCTV from the petrol station which captures the man driving into the station before parking his vehicle at the pump.
Later that night, the vehicle was seized and a warrant was executed. Police seized the suspected firearm, which was later identified as a gel blaster capable of propelling a projectile, two vials of a clear liquid believed to be gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and the false number plates.
The man is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 20 April 2026), charged with possessing a prohibited firearm, using an unregistered vehicle, unlicensed driving, using an incorrect number plate, and using an uninsured motor vehicle.
ACT Policing reminds the community that replica firearms including gel-blasters are prohibited items and it is a criminal offence to possess items such as the one seized in this incident.
