A 41-year-old Coombs man will be charged after he was caught drink driving earlier this week.

About 5pm on Tuesday (7 April 2026), police conducting patrols in Yarralumla observed a white Mazda 3 with damage to the front of the vehicle travelling along Adelaide Avenue.

Officers activated their lights and sirens but the driver failed to stop.

Police followed the vehicle until it pulled over on Parkes Place, but the driver then allegedly reversed abruptly, forcing officers to move their vehicle to avoid being hit.

Officers approached the Mazda and removed the driver after he refused directions to exit the vehicle.

The man was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result to alcohol. He was taken into custody and underwent further testing which returned a reading of 0.157 – more than 3 times over the legal limit.

A search of the vehicle uncovered six bottles of wine, two of which were empty.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and he is expected to face court for drink and dangerous driving offences at a later date.

Anyone who saw or has dash-cam footage of the white Mazda 3 with ACT registration YSE05C driving in Yarralumla or Parkes is asked to contact Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8350766.
