ACT Road Policing officers targeted drivers both in Canberra and Jervis Bay across the ANZAC Day long weekend.

In Canberra, 74 infringement notices and 34 cautions were issued between Friday and Monday.

In Jervis Bay, ACT Road Policing officers worked with local officers to conduct targeted road safety operations that saw:

  • 33 drivers subjected to random drug screening tests with four drivers returning positive roadside tests.
  • Nearly 1000 drivers subjected to random alcohol screening tests with two drivers returning positive breath tests.
  • 10 vehicles were issued defect notices for non-compliant vehicle modifications or being unsafely maintained;
  • 27 traffic infringement notices were issued to drivers for speeding.

About 1pm on Sunday (26 April 2026) Road Policing officers were conducting mobile traffic enforcement along Jervis Bay Road, Jervis Bay. At this time, officers observed a Kawasaki motorcycle travelling in excess of the sign-posted 60km/h limit at 134km/h, 74km/h over the speed limit. The rider, a 26-year-old man from Woollamia, NSW was issued with an infringement notice for $1841 and he incurred 12 demerit points.

His right to drive in the ACT was immediately suspended for six months.

Last night (Monday, 27 April 2026) just before midnight, officers were conducting mobile patrols near the city when they observed a silver Toyota Hilux travelling erratically on Parkes Way.

Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, where the 47-year-old male driver returned a positive roadside test for alcohol. Officers conducted further checks which revealed that the driver’s licence was suspended due to an unpaid Court fine.

Police conveyed the driver back to City Police Station to conduct breath analysis, which returned a result of 0.161grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath, more than three times the legal limit. The driver was issued with an immediate suspension notice, suspending his ACT drivers licence for a period of 90 days and he will appear in court at a later date.
