Fourth road fatality recorded for 2025

A 49-year-old man from Ngunnawal has become the fourth road fatality for 2025 after being hit by a light rail vehicle today.

About 7:15pm this evening (Saturday, 27 September 2025), police and emergency services responded to a collision between a light rail vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and Barton Highway in Downer.

Emergency services treated the man at the scene before he was transported to hospital with life-threating injures. He was sadly declared deceased a short time later.

This brings the ACT road toll for 2025 to 4 persons.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the collision, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
