ACT Policing’s Road Policing officers caught an unlicenced teen twice on Wednesday night allegedly committing driving offences.

About 11:55pm on Wednesday (7 May 2025), officers were conducting patrols on Horsepark Drive in Moncrieff when they detected a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling at 119km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The driver was directed to stop, and police spoke with a 17-year-old boy from Spence. He provided officers with false details and produced a friends provisional driver licence, which was listed as suspended.

The teen was released pending further inquiries and advised to not drive unless licenced to do so.

Immediately after the initial traffic stop, police saw the same vehicle speeding excessively again in the opposite direction along Horsepark Drive in Taylor.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but the driver failed to comply and crossed onto the incorrect side of a nearby street before eventually coming to a stop.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested by police and will face the ACT Children’s Court on the 26 May 2025 with multiple driving offences including:

  • 2 x exceed speed (30-45km/h)
  • unlicenced driver – never held (first offence)
  • unlicensed driver – never held (repeat offence)
  • reckless dangerous driving
  • fail to stop for police
  • provide misleading statement
  • state false name, date of birth and home address (including produce another person’s driver licence)

ACT Policing reminds all drivers of their obligations towards road safety for themselves and others, and antisocial and dangerous driving behaviour will not be tolerated. Drivers who engage in dangerous driving, burnouts, or street racing will be targeted and offenders will be put before the court.
