ACT Policing has charged two men overnight following drink driving and speeding offences yesterday.
About 12.00pm yesterday (Wednesday, 28 May 2025) Road Policing stopped a 24-year-old man driving a black Honda Accord on William Hovell drive after he was captured driving almost twice the posted speed limit.
The 24-year-old was detected travelling at 171km/h in a signposted 90km/h zone.
Later that night about 9.45pm police were conducting roadside alcohol and drug testing on Belconnen Way, Aranda when they spotted a Holden Cruze with Queensland numberplates being driven across a nearby nature strip, to avoid the police.
Officers immediately followed the Holden and later stopped it on Thynne Street, Bruce where the driver a 32-year-old man whose license was disqualified in Queensland, was subject to a roadside breath test which was positive for alcohol.
The man was transported to City Police Station where he returned a breath analysis of 0.125.
The 24-year-old was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for 90 days, and his vehicle was seized. The man will be issued a Summons to attend the ACT Magistrates Court in the near future.
The 32-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with drive motor vehicle with alcohol in blood/breath, drive while disqualified, and drive on nature strip.
