A 53-year-old Gungahlin man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning after crashing his vehicle into a Kambah median strip after allegedly trying to evade police.
At about 12.45am this morning (Monday, 17 March) ACT Policing officers were conducting a mobile patrol on Damala Street in Warramanga where they observed a red Ford Mustang being driven erratically.
Police activated their emergency lights and sirens to try and stop the vehicle before police allege the driver of that vehicle drove away at high speed.
Officers observed the driver of that vehicle continuing to drive in an erratic manner, swerving across lanes and travelling onto the wrong side of the street.
Police will allege the man drove at a speed of 110 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre per hour zone in Boddington Street in Kambah before crashing into a median strip.
Police were then able to extract the driver from the vehicle before arresting him. He was driving on a cancelled licence.
He will face court charged with one count of failing to stop a motor vehicle for police and aggravated furious/reckless/dangerous driving.
