A learner motorcyclist who was ‘catching up to another set of riders to see if they were part of her group’ will be without her licence for the next six months after being caught speeding on the Barton Highway on Monday.
About 9:20pm on Monday (24 March 2024), officers from ACT Road Policing were conducting speed enforcement activity on Barton Highway, Crace when they detected the motorcyclist travelling at 135km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The 21-year-old female rider, who held a learner motorcycle licence, incurred a fine of $1841 as well as six demerit points. Her licence was also immediately suspended for 180 days.
ACT Policing reminds the community there is no excuse for speeding and that motorcycle riders are considered vulnerable road users. Speeding while on a motorbike significantly increases the risk of death and injury to the rider and other road users.
