ACT Policing will be conducting trailbike training for officers in reserves and greenbelt areas across the ACT in the coming months.

The AFP’s Driver Training Team delivers foundation and maintenance training for officers to gain and maintain their certification in the use of off-road motorcycles.

In the coming weeks and months, Canberrans may see officers being trained (and in some cases patrolling) on trailbikes at locations across the ACT.

Training will initially occur in bush reserves, including ones popular with people walking and exercising.

Officers will also visit suburban green-belt areas where anti-social behavior – especially the illegal use of unregistered trailbikes has occurred.

Bicycle training for officers will also occur -  including at town centres and around Canberra’s lakes.

Police officers participating in the training will be in appropriate uniforms and will be wearing full accoutrements.

People using these areas should not be alarmed or assume an incident has occurred. If people need assistance they are welcome to flag down officers during these training sessions.

ACT Policing is also encouraging anyone who witnesses anti-social or suspicious behaviour in Canberra’s open spaces to report this to police on 131 444 or via Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000) This will allow attendance where appropriate and the collation of incidents to support targeted operations by local officers.
