A 47-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with family violence offences and escaping from custody.
On Friday, 10 January 2025, police allege the man assaulted a woman known to him, contravening a family violence order.
The man was later located by police at the Canberra Hospital, where he was arrested. A bedside hearing was conducted, and the man was transferred into the custody of the hospital to undergo a court-ordered mental health assessment.
On Monday (13 January) the man allegedly escaped from custody.
Police conducted enquiries to locate him and he was found by NSW Police Force on Tuesday (14 January) where he was arrested in Bega, NSW.
Yesterday (17 January), officers from ACT Policing’s Domestic and Family Violence Investigation Unit extradited the man from NSW to the ACT.
He has been charged with aggravated common assault, contravening a protection order, and escaping lawful custody.
