Greenway teen to face family violence charges

A 19-year-old Greenway man will front the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with 15 family violence offences.

ACT Policing will allege that the man committed the offences over a three-month period between November 2024 and January 2025 with a woman he met via a social media platform earlier in 2024.

Among the 15 charges, police allege the man:

  • Assaulted the woman while stationary in a car in Calwell including attempts to choke and suffocate her.
  • Threatened to kill the woman while in that car by holding a pair of scissors to her throat.
  • Threatened to burn down the house the woman was living in at the time in Greenway.
  • Sending threatening messages including to kill the woman.

The woman reported the matters to police yesterday (15 January) and the man was arrested at his Greenway home later that evening.

He is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning with 15 charges including aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, choking, suffocating and strangling another person and make demand with threat to kill or inflict grievous bodily harm.
