A 36-year-old Scullin woman has been charged with drug driving and obstructing police after attempting to run away from them following a collision she was involved in.
About 5.30pm yesterday (Monday, 3 February 2025), police attended a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Kingsford Smith Drive and Southern Cross Drive, Higgins.
On arrival, police were notified that the driver of a silver Toyota station wagon – the 36-year-old woman – had allegedly failed to give way to a blue Ford hatchback.
The woman was subjected to a roadside alcohol and drug screening test, where she returned a positive result for the presence of drugs.
Police informed the woman she was in police custody for returning a positive result to the drug screening test, at which time she allegedly told officers she wasn’t staying and fled on foot.
Despite police directing the woman to stop, she ran between vehicles on Kingsford Smith Drive.
Shortly after, police and other emergency services were able to stop the woman in the middle of the road.
She was subsequently arrested and conveyed to City Police Station where she undertook further drug testing, which showed a positive indication to methylamphetamine and cocaine.
The 36-year-old woman – who was subject to bail conditions at the time of the incident – has been charged with breach of bail, drug driving, and obstructing police. She will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.
