Man to face court after allegedly assaulting partner with a broomstick and drink driving

A 27-year-old Florey man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after allegedly assaulting his partner with a broomstick and drink driving.

About 2.55pm yesterday, police responded to an incident at a residence in Florey.

Police allege that prior to their arrival, the man backed the victim into a corner of the garage and stood over her while yelling at her.

When the woman attempted to leave, police allege he struck her on the back with a broomstick and pulled her hair.

A short time later, the man allegedly left the premises in his vehicle.

Police located the vehicle shortly after and performed a traffic stop.

The 27-year-old, who did not hold a licence, was subjected to a roadside alcohol screening test which returned a positive result.

The man was taken to Belconnen Police Station where he underwent a Breath Analysis Test, which returned a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.069.

The man was issued an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his ACT drivers licence for 90 days. He has also been charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, drink driving, and unlicensed driving.
